AGENT COLLABORATION

and education

DID YOU KNOW ICAP works exclusively through local insurance agents, and regularly hosts events to help better educate agents on the exposures, risks and coverages exclusive to Iowa public entities?

It’s true. And through those events, we provide local insurance agents the knowledge and materials necessary to successfully service public entities and the ICAP membership.

It all started back in the mid-90s, when ICAP hosted its first Agent Seminar, an educational event for the sole benefit of the agents that represent and work alongside the Pool.

We still host the Agent Seminar today, and have grown it into an annual event that attracts hundreds of insurance agents from across the state. The agents who attend benefit from heavy-hitting presentations, key networking opportunities and, of course, continuing education credits.

Years ago, we also began hosting the Educational Summit, an annual members event to which ICAP agents are also welcome to attend. You can learn more about that event here.

Looking for more still? Check out the information on ICAP 101 and the Agent Academy below.

Join us for a coffee, a 101 session and a chance to learn more about the Pool!

ICAP 101 is open to both members and agents, and is scheduled on-demand to best accommodate your needs. As it happens, it is also the prerequisite to the ICAP Agent Academy.  Together and separately, these programs provide ICAP agents the opportunity to spend time with the ICAP team and learn more about the Pool.

What can you expect from a 101 session? Let’s start with a wealth of information, including a history of the Pool and an overview of how ICAP works. We’ll also discuss some of the resources, coverages and services ICAP affords.

Once an agent has attended a 101 session, he/she becomes eligible to attend the ICAP Agent Academy, a two-day intensive through which agents will learn more about the many facets of the Pool and the ways in which they can better service their public clients. Academy intensives are broken down into four separate class segments, including:

  • Marketing;

  • Underwriting;

  • Loss Control; and

  • Claims.

Upon completion of all four sessions and full attendance at the annual Agent Seminar, qualified agents will earn the “ICAP Certified” designation, a recognition that is bestowed upon just ten agents per year.

Interested in participating in the Academy? Great! Email Kasi Koehler to learn more. The 2023 Academy class is already full, but we will be happy to place your name on the list for 2024; in the meantime, we can get you started with a 101 session.
